Talking
As I said in the earlier post, we are thrilled that Andrew is finally talking. Andrew said many words as a youngster, but abruptly stopped talking once we brought little Caleb home. That was at 20 months old and at Andrew's two year check up the doctor displayed concern for this regression. He suggested we attend classes to get Andrew talking, but Mike and I truly felt like it was nothing more than Andrew adjusting to being a big brother. After talking to a few experts, we decided to wait until Andrew was 2 1/2 before taking any further steps. Then we waited and waited, until all of a sudden once day Andrew started talking! It was amazing! I actually started keeping track, but then he started saying so many words each day that I couldn't even keep up. Now, he talks all the time and in full sentences! My favorite saying of Andrew's right now is, "This is don't working", which he says every time he is putting something together. I also like when we are working on a puzzle and he matches a piece. He usually shouts, "It works!" or "I made it!" Sometimes when we are driving down the road he will shout, "A slide, look!" or "A pool!" with great enthusiasm. Another thing about Andrew is that he elongates the last word in every sentence. For example, Andrew has a little battery operated car. I am constantly asking him if the car is on or off and tonight he responded, "The car is ooooooooooooo...fff" I just started cracking up since I had to wait so long to figure out which it was! I have put a little video together to give some examples of Andrew talking, so here it is!
I have to mention that while we were on our Central Coast road trip, we were often all sleeping in the same bedroom. Andrew was absolutely adorable to listen to at night while he was falling asleep. He would pretty much review his whole day to himself and then review different things that he knows, like counting and people's names. He sure is fun right now, I wish I could document everything he says, but I just have to appreciate it all!
