Spring Break at Lake Powell

Ahhh!  What an exciting time...Spring Break!  Ever since December, we have been awaiting April 15th!  It could not come soon enough as we had been planning a trip to Lake Powell for months!  We decided that it would be best to watch the 10 day forecast the week before heading out since spring weather at Lake Powell is a bit unpredictable.  It turned out to look great...mid to upper 70's all week long!  We packed up the Landcruiser, hooked up the boat, and began our 16 hour trek.  Our first night was a quick 5 hour jaunt over to Bishop to visit Ricky Todd.  It was late by the time we got there, but we got a good visit in with Ricky.  We heard about his recent back country skiing trip to Italy and his new rock climbing wall that he is creating. Then, it was on to driving through lots of desert and coming across small mining towns.
We were so excited to finally make it to Paige, Arizona and get out on the lake!  Once we squeezed a Wal-Mart trip in, we loaded the ice chest, and launched the boat.  The weather was perfect!!!  We had a small scare in the beginning, when the boat suddenly stopped running and would not start.  I think we both felt pretty defeated after making it so far.  Luckily we were right outside the marina, used the trolling motor to go in, and had a mechanic take a look at it.  It turned out that the gas valve had rattled shut and we were back in business again!  Out we went on our five day camping, boating, and fishing adventure.  The first day, we ended up just barely getting camp set up in time for a sunset dinner.  The wind had really picked up and the first campsite we had selected just wasn't going to cut it since it didn't have any protection.  We loaded up and found a new campground with a nice view and some protection.  By the time we set up camp, we were very wind blown and Andrew was not very happy!  The wind was blowing sand in his face, so we decided to let him hang out in the tent, which gave a reprieve from the wind.
Here was the view from our campground!
Every day, we would get up and go out on the boat to fish. Andrew was all set up in the bow of the boat with all his toys and a nice big beach umbrella to cover him up.  He loved playing in the boat and watching Mike fish.  Of course, he had to be contained, so I set up Mike's tackle box to lock him in.  He thought that dropping his toys on the other side of the tackle box was the best thing ever.  The days were beautiful and we enjoyed hiking, playing on the beaches, and relaxing in the warm sun.  Here are a few pictures that show our wonderful time out at Lake Powell!
