Apple Hill

Every fall, as the leaves start to change, we make a yearly trip up to Apple Hill.  We prefer to enjoy it without the crowds, so we usually go on a rainy day or a weekday.  Luckily this year, Mike was able to take a Monday off work and we headed up.  The weather was beautiful; sunny and warm!  The Scofield's were here visiting and they were thrilled to check out the farms with us.  We started at Apple Ridge Farms because it has a little petting/feeding area that Andrew likes.  There are goats, bunnies, chickens, and even a few sheep.  At this farm, there was also a quick little nature trail that wound through the apple orchard that we decided to take.  As we were walking, Steve was giving Andrew and Caleb nature lessons.  We even ran into some bear scat! We found the perfect Caleb sized apple ~ small enough for him to hold onto, but too big to fit into his mouth!

Trying the apples..plucked right from the tree.

Learning about the pine.
Deer tracks!

The next stop we made was High Hill Ranch. We love this farm because of the delicious apple doughnuts and the fishing pond.  We grabbed a little bite to eat and sat by the pond to watch people bring in lots of fish.  Mike and Steve were amazed that people were actually fishing as you have to keep what you catch at a whopping $9/pound!  Andrew seemed to like the little pond and Caleb enjoyed the grass. There was also a cute little pumpkin patch, where I tried to take pictures of the boys.  It didn't quite work out as Caleb just wanted to eat the hay and Andrew just wanted to throw it.

Our last stop of course was Boa Vista Orchards so we could grab some fresh produce and a hot apple pie.  Andrew was enthralled with all the green and red apples (and couldn't believe there were even some that were green AND red).  Here they are apple hunting!

We were all nice and hungry by that time so we headed over to the buffet at Red Hawk to grab dinner.  We had a lovely time chatting with the Steve and Dianna and enjoyed our day at  Apple Hill.  A bath was definitely in order that night!  Ewww, look at the water!
